Guide to scooter Ko Yao Yai Island in Thailand.

Travel to Thailand is already an adventure on its own! Exploring the cities, beaches, and mountains is just amazing. Sure, some spots are touristy, but that’s not where the real magic happens. You’ve gotta check out the hidden gems to really uncover the extraordinary!

Most trips to Thailand usually hit spots like Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Samui, but there’s so much more to explore! Since we were heading to Thailand, a beach island vibe was non-negotiable for our trip, but we weren’t about to do the tourist spots.

I wanted to veer off the beaten path with a scooter in Ko Yao Yai Thailand. Only reachable by ferry and not overly hyped, gave us all the good vibes. There were just a few small places to stay near the ferry port.

Getting There

Fly into Phuket and hired a cab to the ferry port across the island, Bang Rong for a few dollars. About 45 minutes later we boarded a small boat at Bang Rong Pier. There were only ones on the boat that were not local. Supplies for the island were also being loaded, food, motorbikes, etc… The hour boat ride landed us near close enough to our hotel.

The island isn’t really set up for tourists, but the friendly locals makes you feel right at home. The vibe here is super chill, with stunning beach views of stone spires popping up across the bay.

We grabbed some scooters for the day from our hotel and went on the hunt for hidden beaches and local eats. The whole island is filled with pristine, untouched beaches. Riding through the jungles between the beaches offered gorgeous scenery. Stop at random food carts around the island was my favorite thing to do. Even those random afternoon tropical downpours are a plus, cooling you down from the day’s heat and humidity.

Scooting around is the best way to soak up everything a place has to offer. The “scoot life” really pulls you into the experience of the place instead of just being a tourist at a destination.
