A week in Mallorca, Spain with a scooter and the sun
Introduction
The Balearic Islands are an intriguing trio of fantasy islands, each with its unique vibe. Mallorca, the largest and most diverse for travelers, is packed with hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. The most thrilling way to unveil its secrets is to hop on a scooter and let the adventure take you where it will.
Road cycling may be the main attraction but, thrilling hikes, secluded beaches, vast olive orchards, and intriguing archaeological sites that all demand your attention.
Indulge in a week-long stay on the sun-drenched island. You can pair this trip with the rest of Spain or even Morocco. Every hidden nook and beach can be found outside Palma’s bustling center. Riding a scooter breathes life into your senses, an awakening for adventure.
Logistics
Mister Scooter is the rental shop and is a short taxi ride away from the airport in the Palma. After renting is complete, make your way out of Palma. Our villa was nestled among an olive orchard with breathtaking views just outside Inca. This central island location will set you up perfectly to explore all the island’s secrets.
Traffic is sparse outside of Palma, just watch for goat and sheep herds in the plains. Parking is much easier with a scooter in the small villages and beaches. Pack plenty of water as usual with summer in Spain.
Divide and Conquer North/South
Split the Island into North and South. This will save you time and reduce long journeys across the island.
The North has a beautiful mountain range that is easy to traverse with the scooter. The vistas and hidden beaches are all there.
The South is the quieter side of the island has many small cove beaches and villages to visit and relax. Archaeological sights and olive orchards are here.
The hiking here is nothing short of exhilarating. Hiking in the mountains near Lluc I Son Macip provides a great vista of the olive orchards and rolling hills leading to the coast. As you dive into the enticing coves along the North coast, you’ll stumble upon secret beaches where locals laze away, indulging in their sun-soaked lives.
Port de Sóller
Don’t miss Port de Sóller; it’s the perfect harbor to sip on a refreshing aperol spritz while you indulge in some serious yacht envy as you leisurely stroll along the boardwalk.
A tour of one of the local olive oil orchards is not just recommended; it’s an absolute necessity for any self-respecting food lover. Sa Tafona de Caimari is a quick roadside stop for some sampling and gathering tasty gold to take home. There are multiple options to check out though across the island.
Talaiots Archeological Sites
Across the island, you’ll find mysterious rock stacks known as Talaiots, relics steeped in history yet utterly devoid of crowds. With more than 400 talaiots scattered across the island, you be sure to come across one. They are worth a brief detour for those who crave a glimpse of the island’s secrets.
South Coast
The southern part of the island beckons with its enchanting beaches and secluded coves, inviting you into the refreshing Mediterranean Sea.
